Set of 2 Stangl Thistle pottery platters / chop plates designed by Kay Hackett. Hand-carved and hand-painted. The colors are stunning and there is a nice weight to each plate.

The history on this design is memorable. Johann Martin Stangl disliked the pattern immensely, as he believed the thistle to be an annoying weed. Why on Earth would anyone want dishes with a weed on them? When he went away on a business trip the sales manager launched the product. It was a huge success. Thistle is one of the more successful patterns Stangl produced. It was produced from 1950-1967.
