Vintage Reg Moon Torquil Pottery Henley-in-Arden England Shallow Bowl Platter
Vintage Torquil Pottery decorative shallow bowl / platter hand-thrown by Reg Moon, founder. Made in Henley-in-Arden, Warwickshire, England. The artisan that worked directly with Mr. Moon and helped make this lovely glaze noted that this is a hand-made wood ash glaze using the ash from the clippings of Mr. Moon's privet hedge.
Artisan Reg Moon was the founder of Torquil Pottery and Gallery Upstairs in Henley-in-Arden. When he was young he attended Southport School of Art and then Salford Art College. Torquil was the name of the boat that Reg lived on as a young adult whilst throwing pottery on the banks of the Thames in Cookham. After meeting his wife, in the 1960s, the two moved to Henley where they set up a pottery studio named Torquil. In 1985, Reg opened a gallery above his studio which had a national reputation as a showcase for contemporary art and craft. This item is stamped "Torquil, Henley-in-Arden" beneath Reg Moon's personal RM stamp.
