Vintage Pilgrim Cranberry Glass Hampton Hurricane Candle Holder
Vintage handcrafted Pilgrim Glass Hampton hurricane candle lamp. Beautiful gold-ruby cranberry glass with optic panels. Metal candle holder insert made by Knobler (Alfred Knobler was the founder of Pilgrim Glass). Original labels still attached.
The original tag states the glass was made with gold. In the 1960s, Pilgrim's plant manager, Karel Konrad, figured out how to reliably and predictably replicate the look of cranberry glass. While popular during the Victorian Era, it had fallen out of favor due to its high cost and temperamental nature. Cranberry glass is produced by adding gold chloride (sometimes described as "gold salts") to a batch of molten glass. At their best, the resulting blown-glass objects have the color of rubies.
