August W. Steiner was a German immigrant who first worked as an artist for Pickard China of Chicago (1911-1917) and then opened his own Chicago studio. The studio, where he created and marketed his fine hand decorated ceramics and dinnerware, was first located on Garfield Avenue then relocated to Wabash Ave. in Chicago's Jeweler's Row in 1923. In the late 1920s he reportedly sold his studio to Frank Yeschek and relocated to Los Angeles.
