1930's pair of pre-patent Frankart Art Deco bookends featuring cast bronze eagles on imported onyx bases. Eagles are designed by Arthur Frankbert (Frankart Inc.) and onyx base is by New Diamond.

Arthur Frankenberg began designing bookends in New York City in 1921. In 1924 he started Frankart Inc. He was a designer and a sculptor and created some of the company’s most visually stylized Art Deco pieces of the time. In 1930 after a falling out with his business partners he left the company. He then changed his name to Von Frankenberg and started Quoizal Metal Art Company. He took all his designs and molds with him and had to place some of the designs on marble and onyx bases because the pot metal bases were already marked with the Frankart name. Quoizal shut down in late 1931 and Frankart Inc. shut down in 1935. The bookends produced by Frankenberg for Frankart and Quoizal during their short lived history are models of simplicity with beautiful lines and curves and are extremely popular with Art Deco Collectors.
