Stunning Brutalist wall sculpture by American artist Gene Horvath. Sculpture is made of 544 individual wood blocks cut at various angles and capped with brushed metal tiles giving it an organic, undulating effect. Verdigris painted wood frame. This unique, geometric wall sculpture is substantial in size and weight, and visually stunning at all angles. From a private collection of a well-cared for estate.

Gene Horvath(1927 - 1995), a student at the Dayton, Ohio, Art Institute and the Chicago Art Institute, is best known for his “structured paintings,” which include such media as wood, welded metal, formed plastic, vacuum metallizing and reinforced epoxy.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Horvath was an art director in Chicago, Nebraska, and Rockford, Illinois, for 35 years before turning to a second career as a sculptor. Based in Rockford, Horvath pioneered and patented a fabrication process that allowed him to create massive metal works. From 1972 until his death in 1995, he completed more than 30 large-scale commissions located primarily in Illinois (Rockford, Springfield, and in the Chicago area) but as far away as Arizona.
