Vintage framed watercolor landscape mountain snow scene after Roy Martell Mason. Bright, strong colors depicting a man warming by a fire with his snowshoes by his side. He is surrounded by snow, a small brook, mountains and dark winter sky. Artist signed and dated lower right "Copy of Roy Mason by F. Zeretzke 1970".

Fred Zeretzke, an artist, art teacher, and WWII veteran. Early on, Fred was inspired with the world of art from his neighbor, a sculptor and wood carver, Mr. Eberhart. After high school, Fred enrolled in the Layton School of Art in Milwaukee. There he met his future wife, fellow art student Marian Elfers, and shared 66 years in their happy marriage. In August of 1941 he was drafted into the US Army. After the war, Fred and Marian settled in Rockford, IL where they each painted beautiful watercolors. Fred was known as a person who never could live without the pursuit of art every day. He explored a large range of art in a variety of media, taught in his personal studio and at the local college, and exhibited his art at local shows and fairs. In 1977 the couple moved to Mt. Vernon and then Burlington, Washington where they could enjoy the beauty of the Cascades and the Skagit Valley. They opened a studio, offered art classes and continued painting and creating art.
